Am I Committed Long Term?

No, the minimum hire period is for one month. On our Pay As You Store package, you pay monthly in advance but will be refunded any days’ hire you’ve paid for once you have vacated your unit(s).

How Do I Pay And When?

We ask for one month’s hire payment upfront as well as the fully refundable £30 deposit, which is held against the padlock (industry leading) and key, also any contents insurance cover you wish to include. Following this, we will send an invoice to you for each hire period (one month) on the day of your original ‘move in’ date. 

On our Pay As You Store payment system, you can vacate your unit anytime after one month, we just require a months’ notice. If you require any further information, then please refer to the hire agreement which outlines and explains everything you need. This will also be clear on all invoices. 

We have tried to make payments as easy and hassle free as possible which is why we use a company called Stripe. 

It is completely free for customers to use, saving time and hassle to manage one’s payments by collecting payments when they are due. 

What Size Are The Containers?

Please visit the Sizes and Prices for more information. This will show you the dimensions of our 20ft Shipping Containers and what typically you can store within the container. Please note, we don’t currently have any 10ft units.

How Do I Book or Reserve A Container?

If you would like to see one of our brand new one trip 20ft shipping containers before booking then please get in touch. Please note, we don’t currently have any 10ft units. Booking can be done online through our online booking system or alternatively, you can give us a call or email to make enquiries. 

Can I Have More Than One Unit?

Of course! Please speak to us for further information. We will try and ensure you can have your containers next to each other. 

Do I Need My Own Padlock?

When you hire a container with us, we provide you with an industry leading padlock and key that fits within the security fitted lock box. This has only one open side at the bottom, which prevents anyone from tampering with the padlock. 

What Can I Store In My Container?

You can store virtually anything from household items, document storage, business overspill, trade tools and much more. Please contact us if you want to discuss any specific goods or requirements. 

What Can’t I Store In My Container?

We want you to use your container as freely as you like, although we do not allow the storage of the following materials: 

  • Explosives or flammables. 
  • Plants or perishable goods. 
  • Ammunition.
  • Chemicals. 
  • Animals. 
  • Drugs or illegal substances. 
  • Anything that is likely to leak oil or stain/damage the container. 
  • Wet items (please make sure freezers are fully de-frosted and washing machines are fully drained). 
  • Any form of waste whether hazardous, infectious or just household.
When Can I Access My Container?

Our opening hours are 6am to 10pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday. If you need urgent access to the site at another time, then please get in touch. 

What Is the Shortest Hire Period?

Our minimum hire period is one month. 

Will My Belongings Be Insured?

We offer insurance cover at varying rates dependent on the value of belongings stored.

If you are arranging your own insurance cover, proof of documentation will be needed within 30 days, failing to do so, will mean you are automatically enrolled on our minimum cover, after the 30 days.

 We ask all customers to provide proof of insurance before hire for peace of mind and to cover the unlikely event of any damage to occur. It is important to add that most household insurance policies will not cover contents that are stored away from the registered address.

Do the Containers Suffer From Damp?

Our containers are the newest you can get and therefore completely waterproof (our insurance covers this). It is important that units such as freezers are fully defrosted to avoid condensation. The containers are purpose built with multiple vents so air can circulate internally to avoid damp. 

Do I Have to Sign A Lease?

Once you confirm and complete the booking, we ask you to accept our terms and conditions, which forms a storage agreement between you and Green Lock Self Storage. All you have to do is abide by the terms and conditions.

We take only basic information details from you, and these are all kept confidentially in compliance with the GDPR 2018 legislation.

Do You Do Removals?

We do not currently offer removals, but we are looking into this for the future. We can recommend other companies to help you move or help with getting your belongings to our storage site.  

Do You Take A Deposit?

We take a fully refundable £30 deposit against the padlock and key. Once you leave your unit in the same condition you moved in, the deposit will be returned to you. 

What Should I Do When I’m Ready to Leave?

If you want to leave your container, then simply get in touch either by email or phone call to tell us you’re ready to end your hire with us. We will send you an email with the vacating procedure with details on how to leave your unit and where to leave your keys.
